An Indian data base on systematic review of Ayurvedic clinical studies doesn’t exist at present. This is the first ever such attempt. We need such a data base to help identify which forms of Ayurvedic treatments works, which do not, and which are even harmful. With the advent of evidence based medicine movement in the West, “Ayurveda treatment products” available in practice needs to be supported by this kind of evidence. Compilation of systematic review of publications on Indian Systems of Medicine on diagnosis, safety & efficacy in line with Cochrane reviews is an objective of this database. A national data base of ‘therapeutic safety, efficacy and diagnostic profiles of Ayurveda’ based on research publications would be a strong support to market these herbal medicines. This might also give the way for the integration of different systems of therapies. The Institute of Applied Dermatology has now with the support from the NSTMIS, Department of Science & Technology to set up this interactive data base that is expected to grow through voluntary contribution from researchers. We focus on non-RCT type of studies at the moment. This is because at this stage of development of Ayurveda more number of these studies is published. A few authors attempted the systematic review of RCT studies and were critical of paper’s methodological quality. We focus on non-RCT type of studies at the moment.
